This world believed in fate, or rather writing it. A thick book of hundered pages was given to every child before they could even walk. Their parents and guardians would try to write a perfect fate for their children until they were fourteen, carefully crafting a life without any misfortune and struggle. After that the book belonged to the child and everything they wrote became their fate. Subjects like "destiny crafts" were taught in schools to ensure that the children knew the best way to write their fate. Some of the schools even charged upto a millions for subjects like these and upto no wonder people were ready to pay for these. But she? She was different. She never had a book because her parents left her in a garbage heap, with a few dollars. She was found by a beggar named Peter who was in need of a few bucks and took her in out of pity. He never had any affection towards her but atleast he kept her alive, and to get money out of her he even taught her pickpocketing. She was a natural and after a few years she was famous with the name of Vikara. Nobody knew her real name, not even her. Despite all this it was not like she really liked doing this, it's just the "destiny" forced her to. Around her everyone walked with a thick leather bound book around their waist hanging from a chain. She was the only one who didn't have one and that's the idea she always disliked. She was now 14 and was roaming the city streets, looking for her next target, and it was a good day for her as she found an old man. At first she was surprised because seeing an old person in this world is quite rare sight as the life expectancy is about 40-50 years as people sacrifice about 20 years of their life to write their fate. The old man was wearing a brown long coat with a hat on top of his head. He was sitting on a bench and was reading a book. She thought that he was an easy target and she went near him and tried to pickpocket him. But as soon as she got near him, the old man grabbed her hand and said "I think you are in need of the desiny book, aren't you?". She was yet again surprised by this old man because he had quite a strong grip for his age. She tried to get out of his grip but she couldn't. In a confused state she apologized to him and said "I am sorry, I didn't mean to do this. I just stumbled upon you."I don't have crazy money to buy those destiny book. "No no, this one is for free. Here take it." Still in a confused state she took the book from him and then she got creeped out by the smile old man had on his face, if she were to describe it, it was warm and welcoming but at the same time it was creepy.
